Then there is, quite possibly the hardest part, getting grown men who want to do a thing to coordinate in doing said thing. My fellow men are, by and large, absolutely useless at this for reasons I do not fully understand.
So, to make this easier, the Cambridge Business House League is arrange at a pub. No matter how useless British men are, they can reliably be pushed to go to a pub.
As a result on a random Monday in February that is always close to Valentine's Day, we go to a pub called the Dobblers in Cambridge and pass little pieces of paper round trying to figure out when we can play each other.
Genuinely the inside of the Dobblers pub, albeit this looks pretty clean...
The league rules are read, people drink pints and run around trying to figure out who is who, and organise fixtures. It's chaotic, and mad, but it's in a pub and somehow within 30 minutes most people are sorted with 10 or so fixtures for the season. It's absolute witchcraft.
Pubs are magical places, they get men to come together and achieve things like pretty much nothing else I know.
And so, we have 14 fixtures lined up - 9 league games and 5 friendlies, that are posted in this blog.
This year we operate in Division 2 after being thoroughly relegated last year.
I was happy to note that some of our friends from Histon have formed a team called "The Kingston Dons" named after a noted pub in Cambridge, and we will be playing them this year. We'll also reacquaint ourselves with Swaffham, Tamil Sangnam, Madingely Mulch, Stapleford Phoenix and Milton.
New faces this year are TTP, IPH and Barrington - as well as a smattering of friendlies against our usual friends.
The weather is looking up, cricket will be here soon!
