Men of the Moment

This season, courtesy of our generous benefactor Steven Mann Esq, we implemented a man of the match system to determine the recipient of prize kegs of beer (currently gathering dust in my shed). The entirely scientific results of this exercise are below - and they are in no way subjective or made up largely based on chat in the pub afterwards.

20th May - AVEVA - Downing - Parrish - 27 not out and a sterling captaincy performance in miserable conditions, capped by getting kicked in the knee by Barker going up for a catch on our way to a win. Tyler also put an impressive debut in with 2 wickets.

27th May - The Leys - Latham Road - Brolia - I wasn't at this one, but the scorebook never lies, and Ant got 27 not out against the ever impressive, but very nice, Leys School. He chipped in with a wicket in this loss. There is no match report, so I'll mention Brett also getting 2 wickets according to the scorebook.

1st June - Histon Friendly - Histon - Parrish - A nice enjoyable game against our sister club, Histon, with Parrish romping to 45* in a win. Tyler got 3 wickets, and Cam got 17 runs - which made us all smile.

8th June - Histon Friendly Round 2 - Histon - Brett - "Bread" got 16 runs from about 5 balls before being stumped, and was then on fire with the ball taking 2 at an economic rate including a maiden (which had nothing at all to do with the opposition batsmen being in test mode for the whole game). Matt got his customary 25, Barker got 27 and Phillips and Cozzy got 25 not outs each en route to a win. All round a fun game.

14th June - Sharks - Queens - Parrish - An old school shellacking here. Parrish got 28 not out and did some really good fielding. The game shall otherwise not be discussed again.

24th June - Dobblers - Queens - Threadgold - Several of us have this as our highlight of the season, a draw with the Dobblers with Threadgold helping them put out an 11 and top scoring for them with 38 not out. Other notable contributions were Parrish 28 not out, Barker and Anderson-Watt 25 not out, Tyler scooping 3 scalps and it being a draw.

30th June - Deloitte - Queens - Brolia - The father to be here bagged his second MOTM this season with a cultured 27 not out, 2 economic overs for 1 wicket (and the wicket was a worldy of a ball) and he actually ran around in the field in a comfortable win. Other notable contributions, Parrish 27 not out, Hopper 27 not out (very nice it was too) and Sap, Phillips and Tyler each getting 2 a piece.

8th July - Bidwells - Kings - Kingsmill - Will did a fine job here in defeat, hitting a couple of late 4's to push our total, then bowling 3 overs for 6 runs and two wickets - yes you read that correctly. Other notable points from this game were the Ant and Dan snail partnership, Parrish getting 25 not out and Dan getting his 26 not out off about 100 balls.

15th July - Ensors - Queens - Hopper - I wasn't here, but the scorebook does tell a tale of a one sided win that was a bit odd as the opposition used every player to bowl 2 overs. Hopper hit 28 not out, got one wicket from 2 overs for 6 runs, and used his golden arm to good effect. Brett, Phillips and Parrish were in the runs, Sap also got two nice wickets.

21st July - Dobblers - Kings - Coslett - we won this fixture, but it was almost cancelled as the original opposition had a team of two players, so we instead set about putting 22 players together ourselves. Brolia got 3 wickets, and Sap and Brett put on the most fun partnership of the season with 19 and 24 apiece, but the consensus was that Tom's momentum changing 14, and his over of 1 for 4 runs when we'd run out of bowlers made the big difference in a close victory.

5th August - AVEVA - Queens - Kingsmill - This was a pretty easy man of the match award, Will bowled 3 overs for 10 runs and took 4 wickets to prevent AVEVA getting anything like a defensible total. It was bloody dark, Coslett got 3 wickets himself, and Threadgold, Fardell and Ant were in the runs in a solid win.

11th August - Deloitte - Queens - Kingsmill - Another salvaged fixture and a comfortable win courtesy of the Longstanton legend. Will took a wicket first ball (caught by Ant at slip after some of the most prescient chat I've ever seen on a cricket field), got 3 wickets overall, and hit a an agricultural 11 to help us ensure this was beyond our opponents. Coslett chipped in with two wickets, and all of Threadgold, Fardell, Coslett and Brolia were in the runs. It was also very dark.

17th August - Sharks - Kings - Brett - A severely light impacted win again old frenemies, the Sharks, saw Brett bag another top gong for a late flurry of runs partnering Venkat, and 2 wickets to restrict the Sharks in the enveloping gloom of late season. Other highlights are that this was the hundred format, and we beat the Sharks.

2021 Jags Season Stats

The 2021 season concluded for the Jags with 13 fixtures being played across the summer. Massive props to Mark Chairman Fardell for the organisation. We also made a good account of ourselves this year with 9 wins, 3 losses and 1 very memorable tie!

After a boozy golf day completed already the end of season BBQ is the last fixture in the Jags calendar this year and that means it is time to check out the season stats:

Batting

With a 300 run season in his sights, Parrish managed to choke at the death netting just 12 runs in his last 3 innings. Meanwhile Dan quietly topped the averages despite catching covid more times than Steve got runs. James Barker had a strong debut season alongside regular Jags run scorers Ant and Mark as well as a guest appearance from in the triple digits club.

Bowling

Will topped the bowling charts with an amazing 15 wicket return. Definitely his best year as a Jag bowling better than ever at the top of the order. Debutant Tyler ran him close though missing out by 1 wicket at a nice economy. Liam and Ant also made double figure wicket hauls this year but special mention to Cozzy with an incredible average of just 7.2.
